There is a reason why google is often used as a verb. Google is fast, simple and comprehensive.
If your search is broad, such as "health" or "news", Yahoo can help you to start a broad search and offer suggested topics to assist you as you refine your search.
Your search is limited to U.S. Government sites (sites that end in .gov) and U.S. Military sites (sites that end in .mil).
Just because you read it on the Internet doesn't make it true. Be sure to go to a reputable publication source, especially as it relates to medications, medical treatments or diagnoses.
If you have ever used an Internet search engine, such as google.com or yahoo.com, you have most likely experienced "results overload". To receive the result you desire, use the search engine best suited to the search, use key search terms that are not too broad nor obscure, and use search operators whenever possible.
A search operator is one or more characters that act as an instruction to refining an Internet search.
Use Boolean operators to include a phrase or word and exclude a search phrase or word.
A phrase search is words enclosed in double quotes ("like this") which will appear together in all results exactly as you have entered them. Phrase searches are especially useful when searching for common sayings or proper names.
A search word or term is a single word, such as Piedmont or an acronym, such as FIFNC.
Boolean operators are always uppercase:
An example of a search using Boolean operators would be:
"local management entities" AND Piedmont
The result of this search would be a list of Web sites containing the phrase "local management entities" and the word "Piedmont". You could refine the search further by using the exclusion:
"local management entities" AND Piedmont NOT Raleigh
The result of this search would be a list of Web sites containing the phrase "local management entities" and the word "Piedmont", but would not include the word "Raleigh."
You can also use the character + (must include), - (must exclude), and " " (must include phrase).
For instance:
"local management entities" +Piedmont -Raleigh
